Your choice of bed is an absolutely critical factor in how much back pain relief you will get from flat bed rest. However, this does not necessarily mean that
you should invest in a bed that is described as having any particular
medical properties, or as an orthopedic bed or mattress.
In fact, according to research in the UK, the majority of orthopedic
mattresses are too hard, and as a result, only 6% of experts would
recommend an orthopedic mattress to back pain sufferers.
What you are looking for is a bed mattress that is firm and supportive,
as opposed to being hard. Furthermore, if you are a regular back pain
sufferer, you should also consider changing your bed more frequently,
because older beds and mattresses are less likely to give you the
support and comfort that you need to alleviate or perhaps even get rid
of your back condition.

There would also be an argument here for spending as much money as
you can afford on your next bed if you are a constant back pain
sufferer, because it does seem from all available research that sleeping
in or on a high-quality bed can make a significant difference to your
back pain problems.

Obviously, everyone who suffers a back pain condition has a slightly
different problem and therefore there is not one ideal sleeping solution
that covers every back pain sufferer. For this reason, you must be
willing to do a little research when you buy your next bed. That bed
could be the difference between your continuing to suffer back problems
for as long as you sleep in it, or solving your problems in a matter of
weeks.

No matter where you live, your local bed store will offer dozens of
choices, but do not be persuaded by a sales person to take the bed that
they believe is best for your back problems (‘but everyone who has a
back problem buys the Super-ABC bed!’).

Find beds that seem to have the appropriate degree of firmness and
support, and test every one for at least 10 minutes in your normal
sleeping position. Do this and your back will very soon tell you whether
you are looking at the right bed or not!

Is the bed the right height for you to get in and out without any back
pain or discomfort? If it is so low or so high that entry and exit are
likely to exacerbate your back problems, you should move on to the
next option immediately.

Buy as big a bed as you can afford, particularly if there are two people
going to share it. This ensures that you or both of you have plenty of
room to move, which should help with a good night’s sleep.

Finally, do take time to consider the pillows that you use, and how
many of them you generally sleep with. If your pillows are too high,
they could significantly alter the shape and angle of your body during
sleep, and if your shape is not good, this could offset the benefits that
you hope to gain by getting a new bed in the first place.

Also, think about your individual sleeping position, and try to find one
that appears to put the least strain on your back.

Until recently, the air mattress was rarely used for orthopedic bedding in the home bedding market, however there are some specialist bed types that do utilise multi-pocket air mattresses with independently inflatable sections. These air mattresses allow precise adjustments to different zones of the mattress. They can also be found in hospitals.

In the hospital sector, air mattresses are a commonly used medical instrument that prevent patients with limited mobility from suffering from joint problems and bedsores.

Multiple-zone air mattresses

Multiple-zone air mattresses are definitely in the premium price category and allow independent inflation and pressurization for the different pockets of the mattress. These air beds can be permanent bed alternatives and can have orthopaedic characteristics. They can also be adjusted with relative ease at any time.

As with all beds, quality comes with a price, but some good quality air beds offer many options including additional padding and foam top layers. These beds are well constructed and often have soft railings around their edges.

Temporary and recreational air beds

The other types of air mattress applications are – the inflatable camping mattress and the inflatable home mattress (as a put-up bed). These mattresses are for short term use only and offer no orthopaedic qualities. They provide minimal comfort and support. If however you are looking for temporary stow-away beds for guests, then cheap inflatable air beds are a good solution.

Occasional use air mattress

An air mattress (often referred to as an airbed) is an inflatable mattress that is typically made of plastic, textile-reinforced plastic, or rubber. The support is achieved by means of filling the mattress with compressed air. This may with done with an electric or manual pump.

Air mattresses are often nothing more than portable mattresses that you inflate when required and deflate for storage when not in use. They are a convenient option if you want something that will let you sleep fairly comfortably, but that can easily be rolled up and stored away.

Air mattresses are available in a variety of shapes and sizes which makes it easy to find one that meets any spatial requirement.

Premium range air beds (those with orthopedic benefits), have an inflatable mattress that allows the sleeper to adjust the firmness to their own needs. Each segment of the air mattress is independently inflatable, allowing a sleeper to adjust the level of support provided for their head, lumbar, and foot regions. This is done by altering the air pressure within each segment of the mattress unit – usually with a remote control unit.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that air mattresses are too soft for use with sleeping infants.

Orthopedic mattresses come in various types and sizes. We are just listing down the major ones here.

MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS

As the name suggests, the material contours itself to the shape of the body resting upon it. When pressure is relieved, it returns to its original shape. This product came out of years of research from NASA. Since these mattresses help maintain the natural double S shape of the spine, these are said to provide an excellent support to the lower back.

Coil Mattresses

As the name suggests these mattresses use open coil springs to provide comfort. Though these are still the most popular mattresses in terms of numbers sold, these are no match to memory foam mattresses. pen coil spring mattresses typically have springs that are about 6 coils high and a regular double bed has over 300 of them in its construction. Helical wires connect the tops and bottoms of all coils to create a single unit that is held in a frame. The internal void of the mattress is then filled and covered (with mattress ticking). There are also variations on this system like the pocket sprung mattress.

Latex Foam Mattresses

These are the mattresses formed of the natural latex rubber taken from the sap of rubber trees and is vey similar in nature too memory foam mattresses. The only difference, the latex foam mattresses react to not only the body weight on it but also the heat emanating from the body, it is rubber after all. The memory foam mattresses on the other hand do not react much to the body heat. Overall, the latex foam mattresses are spongier and bouncier. Also, the latex foam mattresses are a bit cooler than the memory foam mattresses.

Magnetic Mattresses

These as the name suggests use magnets for body relief. The magnetic fied genarated by the magnets in the mattress is claimed to get a good noght sleep but also help in relieving several ailments and body pains. Though this needs to be researched further but these type of mattresses are also there and have there own supporters and detractors.

Air Beds

The Air beds are the air inflated beds which are commonly used for guests. There are specialised air beds available which have the ability to contain and increase air pressure at certain body parts and therefore can be adjusted to your body needs.

Water Beds

Though not very popular, you can have these for fun at your place.

As we move through the early years of the new century, the pace of life
is becoming ever more frantic. With every passing day, there seems to
be more to do than there ever was before. At the same time, there is
little doubt that the pressure of modern life is likely to keep on
increasing rather than falling away and allowing us to relax in the way
that we would probably all like to.

Because life is becoming ever more frantic and stressful, there can be
little doubt that the stresses and strains on your body are also
increasing on a daily basis.

It is little surprise that so many people are plagued with constant
niggles, aches and pains. Indeed, some unfortunate people are forced
to suffer their pain in silence, trying to live a life that is as normal as
possible.

Of course, because most people do not find themselves in this situation,
they probably give very little thought or perhaps no thought at all to the
pummeling that their body takes daily. That is likely to continue until
some kind of body pain hits, and from that point on, pain becomes a
very real and important consideration in their life.

Some forms of pain are less serious than others, and many types of
pain will come and go. However, not all pain complaints can be so easily
dismissed and amongst those that are most commonly felt and painfully
endured is back pain.

It is estimated that between 50 million and 80 million US citizens suffer
from chronic pain (defined as a pain that has lasted for more than six
months), and that this costs over $100 billion in social costs every year.
Back pain is one of the most common reasons for people visiting their
doctor or medical practitioner.

Indeed, it has been estimated that as many as four out of every five
people in the world will have to consult a medical professional at some
point in their lives with a back pain problem.

For those who have never suffered back pain, it is possible that they
can sympathize with those who are regular sufferers, but it is unlikely
that they can truly appreciate the amount of pain and suffering that
back pain brings.

That is why one should take utmost care of ones sleeping habits and use orthopedic mattress for a sound back pain less sleep.

Welcome to Orthopedicmattress.info. Your one stop information website for Orthopedic Mattresses. Believe it or not, sleep is one of the most important factors determining your overall health. And most of the times, people spend tons of cash on fitness products whereas what they actually need is a good night’s sleep. This is where Orthopedic Mattresses come in. By using a good orthopedic mattres, you will allow your body to rest peacefully when you sleep and recover from the day’s stress. An Orthopedic mattress helps to avoid back pain which is critical for your long term health. So still thinking about buying one. i would say, go for it if you have not got one.

Problem with ordinary mattresses is that they do not align to the natural shape of the human spine. In its natural form, our spine forms and S shape which leaves a space as far as the lower back is concerned while sleeping on an ordinary mattress. Orthopedic mattresses and beds are constructed with spine, skeletal and muscular support as their main objectives and this is why they can help, rest and support our backs.

Orthopedic mattress helps in getting you a good night’s sleep which in turn helps your body to recover and rebuild broken tissues at full speed. An orthopedic mattress helps encourage a good night’s sleep by promoting a healthy back. It does this by ensuring that the spine is supported in the correct alignment with the avoidance of localized pressure points. People who use orthopedic beds tend to sleep better, feel more rested in the morning and move around and wake up less frequently during the night.

There are many types of an orthopedic mattress. The recent advances in mattress construction have resulted in materials like memory foam, natural latex foam and numerous variations of the sprung and coil systems, all being used (and sometimes mixed together) for different mattress variants.Other orthopedic mattress variants include, beds that offer remote controlled and motorized adjustment of the user’s angle of tilt and some mattresses even provide heat and massaging features. (These are usually sold as part of a complete bed system.)

Orthopedic mattresses are comparatively costlier but if one takes into account the fact that an average human being spends about 24 years in bed that si on a mattress, the cost makes sense. An average orthopedic mattress lasts about ten years, so all one is going to need is around 8 – 9 orthopedic mattresses in one’s lifetime. Suppose an orthopedic mattress costs around $100 more than the other ordinary mattress which means you will be paying around $ 100 extra in your lifetime for an excellent mattress. Compare this to number of productive hours lost because of lack of sleep, the money spent visiting doctors due to backache and other ailments, you will actually end up saving money in the long run if you purchase an orthopedic mattress.

Most important point while buying an orthopedic mattress is the name of the brand selling it. Buy one from a company which has been in business for few years and knows what its doing. As the material used for orthopedic mattress is a bit advanced and not everyone can get their hands over it. So beware of the cheap outfits selling orthopedic mattresses. Get your money’s worth by buying a good one from a known brand.
